It Could Be Something

November 12, 2019 ~ Sleepy Equestrian

Trees are trees and words are words, at first glance appearing to look and sound the same. A recurring voice says it’s all been said and done before, what can you contribute? To be honest, I’m not sure. Another voice quietly tells me it could be something, so with some ink and time maybe I’ll … Continue reading It Could Be Something

Defining

October 27, 2019November 12, 2019 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ 4 Comments

I woke up this morning just really wanting to write and put something out into the world. Sometimes I want to do this on instagram or facebook. Occasionally, spurred on by relevant events, I share. More (most) often I write or draw in a physical journal, or I'll type in the word-doc-turned-journal I started for … Continue reading Defining

Frida the Fox

February 28, 2019February 28, 2019 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ 8 Comments

I have a draft started about the anniversary of my narcolepsy diagnosis somehow flying by me earlier this month, but I'd rather talk about something way cuter than narcolepsy: To clarify, Frida is not a fox. She is my dog, of mostly indeterminate lineage. She reminds me of one though. On Tuesday, when my sister … Continue reading Frida the Fox

A dedicated post to explain narcolepsy

February 19, 2019 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ 8 Comments

I've been wanting to write this for ages, but when I sit down something comes up (or over) or I manage to convince myself other things need to be done first. It's a little scary because a mention in the sidebar, tagged posts and references in my writing don't tell exactly what narcolepsy is or … Continue reading A dedicated post to explain narcolepsy

Appreciating 2018

January 8, 2019January 9, 2019 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ 8 Comments

Synchronicity is one of my favorite words. I don't think that everything happens for a reason, but I try to see events and relationships through all the ways they influence one another rather than direct cause and effect - for better and worse. It helps me make sense of my story, how the good things … Continue reading Appreciating 2018

Out with a bang

December 29, 2018December 29, 2018 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ 2 Comments

Essentially the last two months have went as follows: Cliff notes version? lost my job gained some contract work got a crazy, sassy adorable dog scheduled & confirmed multiple speaking presentations starting in January The second to last week of October, my hours at work were cut down. I ended up picking up shifts which … Continue reading Out with a bang

Narcolepsy Network Conference

October 29, 2018 ~ Sleepy Equestrian ~ Leave a comment

Heyyo, fair warning if you come here for the horse stuff - there are zero mentions of equines in this post. They'll be back though! :) The first weekend in October I went down to Indianapolis for the annual Narcolepsy Network Conference. Narcolepsy Network is this cool nonprofit organization founded in 1986 that educates, connects, … Continue reading Narcolepsy Network Conference

The Sleepy Equestrian

Horseback rider currently of the lesson-a-week variety, but got my start at age 9 thanks to a new kid at school and a stable a few miles down the road. Sleepy person by way of a type 1 narcolepsy diagnosis in early 2015, though my symptoms (unbeknownst at the time and fairly mild) first started seven years earlier. Living with an incurable chronic illness is a continual work in progress, but the more I lean in, learn, and share, the less it holds me back from what I want.

(like ponies, obviously)
